Price a keg with the Pricing Calculator

Pricing a keg by feel is how margin quietly disappears. The Pricing Calculator turns what you paid for a keg into what you should charge for each pour size.

The Pricing Calculator is a tool rather than a page, so it opens from the Tools menu instead of living at its own address. You can reach the Tools menu from anywhere in BevWerk, which matters because pricing questions tend to come up while you are looking at something else.

  • Cost — what you paid for the keg.
  • Keg Size — which determines how many ounces you actually have to sell.
  • Sales Tax — so the number you set is the number on the menu.
  • Margin or Markup — your target, expressed whichever way you normally think about it.

From those it derives Cost Per Ounce, which is the figure that makes every pour size comparable.

The calculator has three tabs, and they differ by which number you already know.

Start from the price you want to charge. Retail is the field you type into; Adjusted shows what that price actually works out to per glass and per ounce once tax is accounted for, alongside the Cost and Profit of the pour.

This is the tab that matches how menus really get written. You decide a pint is $8 because $8 is a sensible number in your room, and the calculator tells you what that decision earns.

Start from a target percentage instead, and the calculator works backward to the price that hits it. Here both Retail and Adjusted are calculated for you — the percentage is the input.

Use these when you are setting policy across a lineup rather than pricing one beer.

A 50% markup on a $4 pour is $6. A 50% margin on the same pour is $8. Mixing them up is one of the most common ways a menu ends up cheaper than intended, which is why the calculator asks which one you mean instead of guessing.
